Arbor West Neighbors

Arbor West Neighbors (AWN) is a grassroots organization of neighbors in Oak Park, River Forest, Forest Park and Austin connected to support and enrich aging through community building and advocacy. Our mission is to empower adults to thrive as we age in community.

Our vision is to build a multi-ethnic, multicultural community where all older adults are valued, age with dignity, and enjoy opportunities for growth and engagement.

We are an all-volunteer 501(c)3 organization with over 120 members.

Thursday, December 18

8:30 - 10:00 am

This year’s 6th annual Illinois Policy Forum on LGBTQ+ and HIV Aging Issues will be Thursday, December 18, from 8:30-10:00 a.m. The program is co-hosted by Pride Action Tank, AIDS Foundation Chicago, Center on Addison, Equality Illinois, and Golden Rainbows of Illinois South (GRIS).

Our featured speakers are State Sen. Lakesia Collins and Michelle Hoersch, Chief Planning Officer for the Multi-sector Plan on Aging in the Illinois Department on Aging. You’ll also hear from panelists Diane Slezak & Elizabeth Durkin of AgeOptions, Starr De Los Santos of Women Employed, and Niya Kelly of the Chicago Coalition to End Homelessness about the "Economics of Aging: Challenges and Opportunities" as well as updates on the Illinois Commission on LGBTQ Aging and work towards a long-term care bill of rights focused on LGBTQ and older adults living with HIV. And, of course, it would not be a Pride Action Tank event without a storyteller!
