Understanding Gender Fluidity

Wednesday, February 11, 2026
1:00 to 3:00 pm
Oak Park Public Library, Veterans Room

What do you want to know about LGBTQ+? Come learn about some important history, the evolving use of pronouns, how it is to be a family member or friend of a gender-fluid person or someone in transition, and some of the current social and political perspectives. Our presenters are from Youth Outlook, a non-profit organization that provides direct services to the LGBTQ? community, provides education and resources, and creates connections for outreach and advocacy. https://youth-outlook.org/about-us/

In lieu of a fee for this program, the presenters request a donation of non-perishable foods.

The Programs Working Group's offerings intend to engage and educate AWN members in topics relevant to older adults in our community. If you have suggestions for a topic, or especially if you would like to help plan or produce a program, contact Gil Herman, gil@managinghorizons.com.

This year’s 6th annual Illinois Policy Forum on LGBTQ+ and HIV Aging Issues will be Thursday, December 18, from 8:30-10:00 a.m. The program is co-hosted by Pride Action Tank, AIDS Foundation Chicago, Center on Addison, Equality Illinois, and Golden Rainbows of Illinois South (GRIS).

Our featured speakers are State Sen. Lakesia Collins and Michelle Hoersch, Chief Planning Officer for the Multi-sector Plan on Aging in the Illinois Department on Aging. You’ll also hear from panelists Diane Slezak & Elizabeth Durkin of AgeOptions, Starr De Los Santos of Women Employed, and Niya Kelly of the Chicago Coalition to End Homelessness about the "Economics of Aging: Challenges and Opportunities" as well as updates on the Illinois Commission on LGBTQ Aging and work towards a long-term care bill of rights focused on LGBTQ and older adults living with HIV. And, of course, it would not be a Pride Action Tank event without a storyteller!
