Some Volunteer Possibilities

AWN is a grass-roots, volunteer-run organization. Its value and sustainability is dependent on our members volunteering their time and talent. If you already volunteer with us, Thank You.

If you're considering what you might do, here some things to consider.

Some things to consider:

Why did I join Arbor West Neighbors?

  • To socially engage with peers in my community

  • To have learning opportunities from programs, interest groups, field trips

  • To work with others to advocate around issues affecting older adults

  • To be of service to ensure older adults thrive in our community

  • (fill in your own reasons)

What talents and experience do I have?

  • Friendly/welcoming personality

  • Writing/editing skills

  • Artistic or graphic design skills

  • Planning and organizing skills

  • Connections with local groups

  • Baking skills to help provide refreshments

  • Computer skills

  • Work with teens

  • (fill in your own talents and experience)

What are some kinds of tasks that volunteers might do?

  • Work as a member in a Working Group - Membership, Programs, Advocacy, Community Outreach

  • Greet/register people at AWN events such as MeetUps and Programs

  • Set up/cleanup/provide refreshments at AWN events

  • Help write articles for sharing information about AWN

  • Help find suitable venues for our various events

  • Engage in conversations and interest groups

  • Help start a new interest group

  • Periodically review our website to suggest content and photos

  • Take pictures at AWN events to store on our Google drive

  • Serve on the Board

  • Help build partnerships with other organizations in our community

  • (fill in your own ideas for being of service)

Given my responses to the above, I'm ready to do (more) volunteer work to help AWN.

I will talk with my Ambassador or send an email to ArborWestNeighbors@gmail.com with the subject VOLUNTEER.

Arbor West Neighbors

Arbor West Neighbors (AWN) is a grassroots organization of neighbors in Oak Park, River Forest, Forest Park and Austin connected to support and enrich aging through community building and advocacy. Our mission is to empower adults to thrive as we age in community.

Our vision is to build a multi-ethnic, multicultural community where all older adults are valued, age with dignity, and enjoy opportunities for growth and engagement.

We are an all-volunteer 501(c)3 organization with over 120 members.

At times our members and friends have questions about who to talk to/get permission/assistance for a variety of things. Below are some guidelines. Note: AWN Members can look up contact information in our directory. Others may use the suggested processes at the bottom of this document.

There are many opportunities for you to engage as a volunteer to help support our organization and fellow members. Our website lists a variety of volunteer possibilities: www.arborwestneighbors.org/volunteer-possibilities
