Resources for Aging in Place

Aging in place is possible in large part because townships, libraries, and other organizations provide a wide array of services for seniors—more than we can list here.

Help with basic needs includes transportation through township buses and taxi coupons; nutrition programs such as senior lunches and dine-out programs; support in finding a case manager, caregiver support groups, help with money management; and household help with chore and handyman services.

Social life can be enhanced through participation in a variety of park district programs that offer enrichment as well as conviviality through lectures, art and craft classes, and more. Silver Sneakers and memory cafés help seniors get out and participate in a group while doing good for their physical and mental health.

Village to Village Network

Neighbors Caring for Neighbors! Villages are community-based, nonprofit, grassroots organizations formed through a cadre of caring neighbors who want to change the paradigm of aging.

Arbor West Neighbors is a member within the Village to Village Network. There are numerous resources available through that network.

The Network offers many programs - typically delivered virtually - that we show on our calendar. Some announcements of network events are also sent out to our email list.

Arbor West Neighbors

Arbor West Neighbors (AWN) is a grassroots organization of neighbors in Oak Park, River Forest, Forest Park and Austin connected to support and enrich aging through community building and advocacy. Our mission is to empower adults to thrive as we age in community.

Our vision is to build a multi-ethnic, multicultural community where all older adults are valued, age with dignity, and enjoy opportunities for growth and engagement.

We are an all-volunteer 501(c)3 organization with over 120 members.
